--> exodus (~exodus@oc-nas-01-s219.cinergycom.net) has joined #Python Hi guys. I'm looking into writing a cross-platform GUI application. Anyone have any recommendation as to what toolkit to use? tkinter or gtk. just not that evil wrapper called wxpython wow, pygtk looks pretty clean Why not wxpython? exodus: it's slow, it's annoying, it's confusing, it crashes because it's hard to learn and the code is ugly Yeah I'm looking at tkinter docs right now. It looks pretty clean. for a long time i thought pygtk was just as horrible as wxpython, but then i looked at this hello world example right now dash: I'd like to see you substantiate every one of those claims. :) dash: Because my experience indicates otherwise. I think I'm going to use tkinter. Or try to =) exodus: TkInter is good, but the paucity of widgets might bite you later. paucity? exodus: It's not a very wide selection, only the most basic widgets. my main complaint with tkinter is no menu shortcuts exodus: I had to port the app I'm working on at the moment from TkInter to wxPython. exodus: My app is currently being used on Windows and Linux. That's the target for mine. It's going to be a scorched earth clone sort of thing, with multiplayer support. exodus: TkInter was doing the job wonderfully, especially that canvas! exodus: But wxPython beats it hands down when it comes to the variety of widgets. exodus: Why don't you take a look at PyGame as well? I'll do that. pygame isn't for GUIs ivan: He wants to write a scorched earth clone. oh. ivan: AFAICR, that's a game. Yes, it's a game. scorched earth rocked --- gnu[concert] is now known as gnumdk Hell yes it did =) burp: it's written in C++. Next question? one of the rare good games of gaming history Aye, scorch was good definitely use pygame for that. dash: That is a terrible argument. Ambient, as soon as I've got something quasi-working I'll put it up on sourceforge, and you can come help =) dash: Really, you should be ashamed. burp: no, it's not :) burp: Not likely. burp: it's an excellent argument ivan: go away lmao dash, ivan: You can't prove that using C++ to write a GUI library immediately disqualifies that GUI library. burp: "prove"? I think Qt is nice. dash: Yes, prove, by information-theoretic principles or just solid logic. burp: Huh? dash: You made a ludicrous statement without any kind of substantiation. burp: I'm going to stop listening to you now. <-- myouga has quit (Excess Flood) dash: I know that reaction. lol dash: You KNOW that you're being immature. burp: There's no excuse for C++. End of discussion. exodus: this is a "lol"-free channel, please dash: You've been programmed. ahhaha, okay. burp: This discussion is over. dash: I understand that you're cognitively unable to deal with this matter. Negation is far easier. dash: My sympathies in anycase. --> myouga (~myouga@youkai-ipv6.tsps1.freenet6.net) has joined #python --- You have been kicked from #python by dash (Argument from authority! you lose) ---- So, I wait a while for dash to cool down and then re-join #python --> You are now talking on #python --- Topic for #python is Python. The language on the grassy knoll. --- Topic for #python set by dash at Sat Jun 14 09:10:50 hehe yeah exodus: Don't let them brain-wash you too! burp: recommending software written in C++ is strictly --disallowed exodus: You can write really terrible code in C++, but that --shouldn't disqualify the language altogether. Duly noted. dash: I guess this is a question of "Listen to the guy with the --gun." burp: Yes. Yes, it is. dash: I always wondered how it felt to live under that kind of --totalitarian regime. :) so if 99% of code in C++ is written craptastically, does that --still qualify C++ as a good language? burp: hey, _you_ don't live here #python does not exist for your amusement dash: I didn't claim that it does. mmkay. dash: I merely claimed that it was reminescent of a --totalitarian regime. dash: And implied that you were a fascist. :P~ burp: Nah. If i was a fascist I'd have corporate sponsorship. <-- jafo_ has quit (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)) helou all anybody here familiar with pyndex mistj: the pyndex people aren't in there's about three people that can help you and they aren't here hehe --> redblue (star@ppp047.216-96-207.sherb.mt.videotron.ca) has joined --#python <-- bradb (~BradB@dsl4-064.express.oricom.ca) has left #python --("Client Exiting") * burp continues happily coding in C++ AND wxPython *duck* --- You have been kicked from #python by dash (did you not listen?)
