The best television at the moment is the Technogames (or if you have flash here) on the BBC. Not the over the top stuff you see on RobotWars, but a very interesting piece of fun and scientific television. My favourites are rope climbing and the high jump.
Of course, the BBC has a history of making great science TV for kids. I distinctly remember watching the Christmas Lectures. In particular, the lectures given by Ian Stewart were wonderful.
Stumbled on this link. A couple of interesting points are made:
7. Q: What percent of US military spending would ensure the essentials of life to everyone in the world, according to the UN?
A: 10%
On a lighter note, the Dutch cabinet has decided to join the war politically but *not* to help militarily. A Dutch "solution" if I ever saw one. We try to be friends with everybody: join the war to kiss the American arses, and not help with guns to make sure that the French and the Germans are not offended (with economical consequences). Yep, the Dutch, your best neighbour (as long as you are willing to buy). And what a glowing tribute to a unified Europe.
Na een flink aantal nieuwe toevoegingen aan de Wonderdoks pagina is het tijd voor een eerste analyse. Kijk hier en volg de link naar de analyse.
I just saw that Ed Chadwick has linked me from his blog. Ed is a postdoc working on the Delft Shoulder Model. I am touched and will repay his kindness by giving him a link from my blog.
Found this brilliant piece on Usenet:
On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America.We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry.
I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all, it's not like you actually elected him.
I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.
I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defense, I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours.
I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the War of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's very nice.
I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer, but we feel your pain.
I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you want to have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.
And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way, which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this.
We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.Thank you. - Rick Mercer
For those of you who like Homestarrunner check out Weebl and sometimes Bob (alcohol recommended).
Reader participation time! Just as the title says. I will kick-off with Toilette Roulette and Coffee Pot Roulette
Take an office toilet (where the number of thrones is larger than 1). Mount a throne. Do not lock the door. Wait.
Coffee pot roullete is played in a similar fashion. Poor yourself a cup of coffee (important!). Make sure you leave an empty coffee pot. Wait as long as you dare before leaving the coffee area.

Construction of tuples is faster than lists:
import time
n = 400000
t = []
l = []
start = time.time()
for i in range(0,n): t.append((0,0,0))
print "tuples ", time.time()-start
start = time.time()
for i in range(0,n): l.append([0,0,0])
print "lists ", time.time()-start
